Sustainability, Climate Change and Sustainable Healthcare Technology

It is no secret that the world has been facing issues due to humanity’s unsustainable tendencies. Accordingly, Hack 22 first track; Sustainable and climate change track powered by Etisalat Misr; the third mobile operator to enter the Egyptian market and the first integrated operator for telecom services in Egypt, targets UN SDG 13; “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts” ie; sustainability, solutions for the climate change crisis, and recycling/up-cycling. This track aims at encouraging participating teams to develop a sense of awareness and understanding of the crisis and all of the interconnected aspects that surround them in their daily lives. Teams will create solutions that would advocate for a resilient and more sustainable future for the world. Hack 22 will pave the way for participating teams to participate in COP27 that will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in November 2022

As climate change affects every sector and industry, Hack 22 encourages participating teams to develop ideas targeting specific corporate areas and sustainability problems in order to ensure an effective learning environment. Our aim in this track is to produce solutions that would increase regularly sustainable behavior in order to help minimize the impact of climate change.

Hack22 second track is Sustainable Healthcare Technology track, powered by Alfa Medical Group (AMG), one of the largest healthcare providers in Egypt. According to The World Health Organization (WHO) Sustainable Healthcare System is a system that improves, maintains or restores health, while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and leveraging opportunities to restore and improve it, to the benefit of the health and well-being of current and future generations. Solutions might target different facets of sustainability, such as: reducing the amount of wasted material or energy, recycling materials, or even innovating solutions related to transportation to hospitals. There are unique challenges that are specific to the healthcare industry. These challenges include the fact that the industry has a low risk tolerance, since any accidents lead to direct consequences on people’s lives. In addition to that, low funding is another prominent issue. It stems from the fact that healthcare entities generally do not aim to make a profit when compared to other industries. They seek to find a balance between reducing the costs in order to treat more patients while also receiving enough money to be able to improve their current infrastructure or purchase better medical equipment.
